Early Renewal Letter

Hello 2nd Regina Families,

Scouts Canada is transitioning back to a September – August registration cycle to align with the school year. This change aims to reduce administrative burden, ease planning for volunteers, and align membership with the natural Scouting program year. The change is in response to the feedback from parents and volunteers stating the previous calendar-year cycle was less intuitive.

Key Reasons for the Shift:

  • Alignment with School Year: Overwhelming support (84%) from a nationwide survey suggested aligning registration with the September-to-August school year ensures a smoother, more efficient planning process.
  • Improved Operations: The previous calendar-year model created administrative challenges with mid-year registration and volunteer retention, according to discussions regarding the change.
  • Better Experience: The shift is intended to improve the overall experience for parents and volunteers by aligning membership cycles with the natural flow of programs and youth transitioning between sections

The early renewal period for returning Scouts Canada members for the 2026 – 2027 Scouting year runs from April 15 to May 31, 2026, offering a reduced registration fee of $197 to secure a spot early and help transition to a September – August cycle. This six-week window guarantees placement for the upcoming season. Based on feedback, attendance numbers and the overall quality of our program we anticipate full sections again this year with our group.

Early Renewal Details:

  • Who: Returning youth members.
  • When: April 15, 2026 – May 31, 2026.
  • Cost: $197 prorated fee.
  • Why Renew Early: Ensures a spot in their current group and secures the lowest rate before the $295 fee takes effect on June 1.

If the early renewal window is missed, returning members can register starting June 1, but they will be charged the higher standard registration rate of $295

Early registration plays a big role in helping our group run smoothly and successfully. When families register early, it allows our leadership team to:

  • Plan engaging and well-organized programming for Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts
  • Confirm volunteer and Scouter needs
  • Secure supplies, badges, and equipment in advance
  • Ensure proper insurance and membership coverage for all participants

Most importantly, early registration helps us create the best possible experience for your child right from the start of the Scouting year. We understand that life gets busy, but taking a few minutes to complete your registration early makes a significant difference for the entire group. It allows us to focus less on administration and more on delivering the fun, adventurous, and meaningful experiences that Scouting is all about.

We encourage all families to complete their registration as soon as possible to help us start the year strong. If you have any questions or need assistance with the registration process, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your continued support of 2nd Regina Scouts—we’re looking forward to another fantastic year together!

Yours in Scouting,
Greg Korpan
